Additional Steps in the Employment Application Process
If you are offered a position with Evergreen Youth & Family Services, we will request that prospective employees complete the following steps:
- Pass a drug and/or alcohol test in compliance with our agency’s Drug Testing Policy.
- Have two years of sobriety (if you have ever had previous chemical abuse or dependency problems).
- Pass a Minnesota Department of Human Services Background Check.
- Pass a Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension web-based criminal background check.
- Pass a Sexual Contact Background Check (this is a form we send to your former employers for the past five years).
- Provide a current MVR check. Employees must be insurable on our agency auto insurance policy.
Other Job Requirements:
- All agency staff, both full-time and part-time, are expected to be available to attend a majority of the monthly all-agency trainings, which are scheduled on the last Tuesday of each month from 2-4 p.m.
- All staff must be able to attend weekly team meetings at the site where they work. Shelter team meetings are Tuesdays from 4-6 p.m. and ECS team meetings are Thursdays from 10:00 to noon.
- All agency staff must have a reliable means of transportation to attend work-related meetings and training.

Part Time Shelter Youth Counselor
Bemidji Rock Sober Youth Group: Youth Group Co-Facilitator Position Description
INTERNSHIP TITLE: Co-Facilitator for Rock Sober Girls Group
SUPERVISOR: ECS Program Director
SUMMARY: Bemidji Rock Sober is a safe space for youth to have fun with other youth who want to explore being drug and alcohol free. Evergreen offers a support group and sober activities for youth ages 14-18 in the greater Bemidji area! Interns will be responsible for co-facilitating Rock Sober Youth Group weekly meetings and activities on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays. This includes helping plan activities and events, facilitating discussions, supporting and providing case management to youth as needed, and supervising youth at Rock Sober meetings. Youth are between the ages of 14 and 19. Work in cooperation with the Rock Sober lead facilitator. This position requires the use of visual and auditory skills approximately 95% of the time. This position requires the ability to drive agency vehicles
DUTIES:
1.Serve as support group co-facilitator. Prepare a sober support topic for weekly group meetings and work with the other facilitator to develop and discuss the weekly topic.
2.Serve as Lead Rock Sober Facilitator’s primary back-up during sick/vacation/holiday comp time to ensure that Rock Sober can meet for support groups and activities at its regularly scheduled times. Assume all duties of the lead facilitator when providing this back-up support.
3.Provide supervision to youth during the Rock Sober Meetings which occur on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays at 4:00 pm. Meetings last until 5:30 pm on Mondays and Tuesdays, and sometimes go into the very late evening hours on Fridays.
4.Arrive at the Rock Sober location up to half an hour before students arrive to prepare for the meeting and set up the room/activities. Responsible for room clean-up with youth following the meeting.
5.Help prepare a sober activity for Friday meetings and make all of the preparations for this activity such as: submit vouchers for money needed for fees required, pick-up supplies, arrange transportation, provide notification to youth and their family of the activity and any other needed preparations.
6.Contact youth on a regular basis, preferably weekly, for continuing support via phone, texting, face-to-face, etc. This includes youth who attend regularly as well as those youth are irregular in their attendance.
7.Keep up to date records on those attending, number in attendance, topics discussed, and activities in which the students participated so these statistics can be reported to the Rock Sober funders. Prepare notes on youth behavior changes, outcomes and stories about Rock Sober youth.
8.Help plan and direct two to four outreach and fundraising opportunities per year such as communityconcerts, community mini-marathons, picnics and other events.
9.Provide transportation to youth, as needed, using agency vehicles.
10.Conduct activities related to compliance with federal and state laws related to mandated reporting, DHS licensing and the Data Privacy Act.
11.Must protect client, coworker, and agency confidentiality.
12.Must maintain confidentiality and abide by HIPAA and the Data Privacy Act.
1.Participate in agency training. This includes the monthly All-Agency meeting, the annual Evergreen Conference, the annual Evergreen BBQ, and other training that may occur.
2.Each staff member is responsible for receipts for agency advances given to him/her and for receipts for items purchased using agency charge accounts. Receipts must be turned in to the agency business office within a week of the purchase at the very latest. Staff members will be personally billed for the amount of charges or advances if receipts are not submitted within a week. Change must be returned to the business office for any advances not fully expended.
1.Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1.Prefer individual with 2 years of college or equivalent work experience.
2.Prefer individual with two years of direct service with youth and families from diverse backgrounds.
3.Must be 21 years of age (pursuant to state program licensing requirements).
4.Must have a working knowledge of appropriate boundaries with adolescents.
5.Prefer individual who has experience in support groups and understands how to run groups that are safe and supportive for participants.
6.Must have an understanding of addiction and recovery issues.
7.Prefer individual who understands Harm Reduction, Stages of Change, and Motivational Interviewing theory and practice.
1.Must be able to work a flexible work schedule including evening and some weekend activities.
1.If chemically dependent, must have two years of sobriety (no alcohol or drug use for at least two years)prior to starting this role and must maintain sobriety during the full period of employment
1.Must have a valid drivers license and a reliable form of transportation for work-related appointments and meetings.
2.Must be insurable with our Evergreen Auto insurance policy.

2.Must be a strong and positive advocate for Evergreen’s programs and services to the larger community.
3.Must have a commitment to all of Evergreen’s programs and services.
4.Must be willing to comply with agency policies and procedures, including but not limited to those in the Employee Handbook.
